The Puente Economy
Colombia has 18 statutory long weekends per year, mandated by Ley 51 de 1983 (commonly called Ley Emiliani), which moved most public holidays to the nearest Monday. These three-day weekends — called puentes (bridges) — are the engine of Colombia's domestic tourism economy and the single biggest factor in finca pricing, availability, and road traffic.

Booking Strategy
For puente weekends: Book 2–3 weeks ahead. Prices jump ~50% above base. Leave for the finca before 7 AM on Saturday to beat highway traffic.
For Semana Santa and Dec/Jan: Book 1–2 months ahead. Prices spike 80–100%. Minimum stays of 3–7 nights are common. These are non-negotiable peak periods.
For maximum value: Target weekdays between puentes. Tuesdays and Wednesdays in off-puente weeks offer base rates and empty fincas. This is the best-kept secret of the Colombian finca market.
